Your first Orbyt Intelligence subscription ships with a 14-day free trial on any paid tier. We capture your card at signup, but Stripe holds the charge until day 14. Cancel anytime in those 14 days and pay nothing. Your card is never charged. If you subscribe to Build ($99/mo), you also experience Pro-tier features (Skill Premiums, Half-Life, Comp by Stage, Hiring Velocity, the MCP server, /lineage provenance) during the trial window so you can feel the upgrade before deciding. After day 14, your card is charged for the tier you signed up for unless you cancel. The trial is one per customer. If you cancel and later resubscribe, billing starts immediately.

Because the data is real and the engines are expensive to compute. We track 3,445 roles across 81 cities, run quarterly regression refits on six AI engines, and ship Bloomberg-grade provenance on every data point. That costs real money to maintain. We could subsidize a free tier, but the cost would either degrade the data or push other prices up. Build at $99/mo is the floor: the price where the substrate pays for itself and we can keep methodology honest. Build ($99/mo) unlocks the AI Role Taxonomy engine: the substrate every other lookup uses. Pro ($299/mo) unlocks AI Skill Premiums, AI Skill Half-Life, AI Comp by Funding Stage, and AI Hiring Velocity: plus the MCP server and the /lineage provenance endpoint. Scale ($1,999/mo) adds the AI Company Signals engine and webhooks. Enterprise ($4,999/mo) adds a 99.95% uptime target, custom invoicing, and audit log export. Every engine ships its own methodology version visible in every response.

The MCP server at /api/v1/intelligence/mcp is a JSON-RPC 2.0 endpoint exposing six locked tools: list_capabilities, analyze_compensation, analyze_skills, analyze_market, discover_roles_and_cities, find_adjacent_opportunities. Every tool returns a Decision-Ready Response with a quotable answer, primary + supporting data, methodology citation, follow-up suggestions, and honest limitations. Available on Pro and above using your same API key. Drop into Claude Code, ChatGPT, or any MCP client.

Yes: on Pro and above. Create a key with only the scopes it needs: intelligence:read (the substrate), skills:read (premiums + half-life), market:read (velocity), compensation:read (comp by stage), company_data:read (company signals), intelligence:lineage (provenance). A key granted only skills:read can hit Skill Premiums but not Company Signals. This is the recommended pattern for production keys: limit blast radius if a key is ever leaked.

Every salary data point carries a stable data_point_id (e.g. ai-engineer:san-francisco:median_base:2026-Q2). The /lineage endpoint resolves that ID into the full provenance trail: every source that contributed (BLS OES, H-1B LCA, state pay-transparency job postings, community submissions), with fetch timestamps, contribution weights, and the reconciliation rule applied. Bloomberg-grade citation. Pro tier with the intelligence:lineage scope.

Every API call to any endpoint counts as one request. Cached responses (same query within 60 seconds) do not count against your limit. Idempotent POST replays (same Idempotency-Key + same body) return the cached response with X-Idempotent-Replayed: true and don't count.

You will receive a 429 response with X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset headers and a retry_strategy field in the error envelope. Upgrade to a higher tier for more throughput, or add backoff using the retry_hint. @orbyt/cli auto-throttles when remaining approaches zero.

It varies by engine. Role Taxonomy updates quarterly because identities are slow-moving. Skill Premiums and Comp by Stage refit quarterly. Skill Half-Life refits annually (decay is slow). Company Signals and Hiring Velocity update weekly. Every response carries methodology_version so customers know exactly what they're citing.

Yes. Cancel during the 14-day trial (first subscription only) and your card is never charged. Cancel after the trial and your subscription ends at the end of the current billing period (no termination fee, no minimum commitment). Your API keys keep working until the period ends.
