The Orbyt MCP API gives you programmatic access to your job search pipeline. You can read and write jobs, contacts, activities, calendar events, and more. The API is available to Ultra plan users.

What is the MCP API?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools. Orbyt implements MCP so that Claude Desktop, OpenClaw, ChatGPT, Apple Shortcuts, Zapier, and any REST client can interact with your pipeline.

Generate and manage API keys

API keys let you connect external tools to your Orbyt pipeline. Each key can be scoped to read-only or read-write access.

Generate a key

1. Go to Settings > Account
2. Scroll to API Keys
3. Click Create API Key
4. Enter a name (e.g., "Claude Desktop", "Zapier")
5. Choose permissions: Read & Write or Read Only
6. Click Generate Token
7. Copy the token immediately. It starts with ext_ and will not be shown again.

Connect Orbyt to Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop supports MCP servers natively. Once connected, Claude can search your pipeline, add jobs, and suggest next actions.

Setup

1. Generate an API key in Settings > Account > API Keys (name it "Claude Desktop")
2. Open Claude Desktop's config file:
   - macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
   - Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
3. Add Orbyt to the mcpServers section with your token

Setup

1. Generate an API key in Settings > Account > API Keys (name it "OpenClaw")
2. Open OpenClaw Settings > MCP Servers
3. Click Add Server
4. Enter: Name: Orbyt, URL: https://www.orbytjobs.ai/mcp.json, Auth: Bearer ext_your_token
5. Click Save

ChatGPT supports Custom GPTs with Actions. You can import Orbyt's OpenAPI spec to build a GPT that reads your pipeline and helps you prepare for interviews.

Setup

1. Generate an API key in Settings > Account > API Keys
2. Go to chat.openai.com > Explore GPTs > Create
3. In the Configure tab, add Actions > Create new action
4. Set authentication to API Key with Bearer type, paste your token

Connect Orbyt to Apple Shortcuts

Apple Shortcuts can call the Orbyt REST API using the "Get Contents of URL" action. Build morning briefings, quick-add workflows, and Siri commands.

Quick start

1. Generate an API key in Settings > Account > API Keys
2. Open the Shortcuts app and create a new shortcut
3. Add "Get Contents of URL" with:
   - URL: https://www.orbytjobs.ai/api/mcp/pipeline
   - Method: GET
   - Headers: Authorization = Bearer ext_your_token
4. Add a "Speak Text" or "Show Notification" action with the result

Orbyt sends real-time webhooks when events happen in your pipeline. Connect these to Zapier, Make.com, or n8n to build automations.

Setup

1. Generate an API key in Settings > Account > API Keys
2. In Zapier (or Make/n8n), create a Webhook trigger and copy the webhook URL
3. Register the webhook via the Orbyt API:

Manage webhooks

Accepted Answer

Webhooks send real-time HTTP POST requests to your URL when events happen in Orbyt. Each webhook includes an HMAC-SHA256 signature for verification.

Create a webhook

POST to /api/mcp/webhooks with:
- url: Your endpoint URL (must be HTTPS)
- events: Array of event types to subscribe to
- secret: A signing secret for HMAC verification

Every webhook includes an X-Orbyt-Signature header. Compute HMAC-SHA256 of the request body using your secret and compare.

API rate limits

The Orbyt API enforces rate limits to ensure fair usage for all users.

Limits

- Per-minute: 60 requests per minute (sliding window)
- Monthly: 50,000 requests per calendar month (resets on the 1st)

Common issues and solutions when using the Orbyt API.

401 Unauthorized

Your API key is missing, expired, or malformed. Make sure you include the Authorization header with "Bearer ext_your_token". Check that the key has not been revoked in Settings > Account.

403 Forbidden

Your Orbyt plan does not include API access. The MCP API requires an Ultra plan. Upgrade at orbytjobs.ai/pricing.

429 Too Many Requests
